Oppenheimer (2023)
What is unarr, exactly?
Think of it as your private Netflix, set up in 30 seconds: the web brings the catalog, your PC brings the engine, and you hit play from wherever you are.
The catalog and the remote
Where you search movies and shows and hit “Download”. Works from any device with a browser: phone, tablet, or your work PC.
The engine
A 20 MB program running in the background on your machine at home. It receives the order, downloads the file, organizes it into the right folder and leaves it ready to play.
The cinema
Hit play in your browser, cast to Chromecast, or open it in VLC. Your machine serves the video whether you're on the couch or away from home.
No Docker required, no database, no maintenance. One command to install — then forget it exists.
Install in 30 secondsSound familiar?
This is how most people download movies and shows today.
unarr solves all of this.
This easy.
Your daily experience with unarr.
Search

Click
Hit download — from your phone, tablet, or work PC. You don't need to be at home.
Enjoy
The file appears on your PC or NAS, automatically organized in the right folder. Just hit play.
Installation: one command on your PC or NAS and you're done. See instructions
Everything you need. Nothing you don't.
Every feature works out of the box. No plugins, no third-party integrations.
Your catalog on autopilot
Add shows to your watchlist. When a new episode drops, it downloads automatically to the right folder. No action needed. Just watch.
Real quality, verified by TrueSpec
Tired of "1080p" files that are actually 720p? TrueSpec scans the real video — codec, resolution, audio. Quality score 0-100. Never download junk again.
Download from anywhere
From your phone, tablet, or work PC. Click and the file appears on your PC or NAS. If your machine is off, the download starts automatically when it comes back online.
Stream while downloading
unarr starts a local HTTP server. Auto-detects mpv or VLC and opens your player. First frame plays with only 2% downloaded. Zero waiting, private local streaming.
Your library, on any screen
Everything you download plays right in your browser — even away from home. Automatic subtitles, multiple audio tracks, scrubbing thumbnails and Chromecast. Your PC does the serving; you just hit play.
Search 35+ Sources
35+ sources in a single query. Quality-scored results so you always grab the best version.
Plex & Jellyfin Ready
Downloads auto-organize into Movies/Title (Year)/ and TV Shows/Title/Season XX/.
Torrent + Debrid + Usenet

unarr vs. the manual way
What you do today vs. what unarr does for you.
Under the hood
For those who want to know how it does it. If that's not you, everything above is all you need.
Hardware transcoding
Converts video on the fly with your GPU — NVIDIA NVENC, Intel QuickSync, VA-API or Apple VideoToolbox — when the browser can't play the codec. Falls back to software automatically.
Instant seek, anywhere in the file
Compatible codecs aren't re-encoded: unarr serves the original stream in segments. Jumping to minute 90 is instant and costs almost no CPU.
Persistent streaming cache
The second time you play something, the segments are already on disk: instant start, zero transcoding.
HDR → SDR tone-mapping
GPU tone-mapping (libplacebo/Vulkan) so HDR sources look right on regular screens.
Automatic subtitles
Extracts embedded subtitles (SRT/ASS) and serves them to the player; image-based ones (PGS) get burned into the video.
Built-in VPN that doesn't touch your system
Userspace WireGuard: only torrent traffic goes through the VPN — no root, no changes to your machine's network. PRO+ add-on, or bring your own config.
Full Usenet support
Native NNTP client with par2 repair and RAR/7z extraction. Included with PRO.
Remote access without opening ports
Public HTTPS tunnel (Cloudflare) or Tailscale to reach your library from any network — no router changes.
Updates itself
Hit “Update” on the web and your agent upgrades itself in seconds — no SSH, perfect for NAS and Docker. Releases are signed and verified.
Resistant to ISP blocks
If your ISP blocks the domain, the agent fails over to a mirror automatically and keeps working.
Pick your poison.
